Explore the hub

Three floors that inspire

The hub will engage students in every phase of their entrepreneurial journey with each floor mirroring a student’s progression. From exploration to execution, the hub’s learning environments become increasingly immersive as students advance their entrepreneurial exploration.

First floor: Open play

The hub’s first floor provides space for students to explore, connect with other students and get an introduction to entrepreneurship at KU with amenities including:

  • A drop-in ideation lab where students can integrate coursework with real-world solutions, designing prototypes and troubleshooting with peers
  • Open collaboration space where students from various academic disciplines can connect and bring diverse skill sets to solving business challenges
  • A 1,900-square-foot event space with multiple seating modes where students can learn from dynamic presentations, then gather into smaller groups to workshop ideas
  • A café with free drip coffee and grab-and-go items to fuel creative thinking and impromptu innovation

Second floor: Formal instruction

The hub’s second floor will focus on instruction and will include highly flexible and dynamic classroom spaces providing multiple ways to teach and learn featuring:

  • Large classrooms designed for flexible use, where classes can meet en masse or divide into smaller discussion groups to develop and test theories
  • Team rooms where project groups can build business models that stand up to real-world scrutiny
  • An open study area for peer-supported learning where study groups can meet and exchange ideas and information to help each other succeed in class
  • A suite of reservable offices for professors teaching in the hub to meet with and mentor students

Third floor: Deep dive

The hub’s third floor will provide dedicated collaboration space for students in the Catalyst program. All students will have access to the other areas on this floor, which will include:

  • Seminar, conference and team rooms where students in entrepreneurship programs and clubs can immerse themselves in collaborative learning
  • A multifunction content creation studio where students can use workstations to build business ideas, and the dedicated pitch area to bring those ideas to life in a meaningful way
  • An outdoor terrace students can use daily to get a “fresh air” perspective on challenging problems, or network with peers at special events

Throughout this exploration process and early design discussions, we’ve been intentional about designing spaces that complement, not duplicate, existing resources on campus. The hub will offer unique environments for ideation, collaboration and experiential learning.
